Deadpool Ryan Reynolds - Hope the Casting Director was Right

I like Ryan Reynolds–as a comedy actor, not as a superhero. Ryan is now “Deadpool” in the upcoming Wolverine prequel to The X-men movie. I’d like to think it was the right move since the Deadpool character is a wiseass and Mr. Reynolds’ often plays a wiseass. However, his physical presence doesn’t scream out “hero.”
This was evident in Blade Trinity. The “curse of the third sequel” struck and again and the movie fell short of fan expectations for a number of reasons. Ryan played Hannibal King; according to the comicbook profile he is a private detective involved in supernatural affairs. It may not have been Ryan’s fault as to the character direction, but he came off as a “kid” with boyish good looks and not the gristle required of a private detective. A forgettable performance unfortunately.
And that may be Ryan Reynolds weakness. He still looks like he’s in his early twenties with no life experience which may lend well to college humor, but not epic tales of hero origins.
I don’t want to pre-judge too harshly. There’s some debate as to whether he will be wearing a mask or not in the Wolverine movie. With a mask, maybe Ryan could overcome some of the visual problems with his characterization. Still his voice is even boyish.
I have nothing against Ryan Reynolds. I’m just thinking he’s not right for the film and before he is cast in action blockbusters maybe he needs to age some more or try some artsy alternative films to depress himself.
He seems to happy, too friendly–you would have thought getting engaged to Alanis Morrisette would have been enough to turn him into an alcoholic and turn the crank on his acting abilities. That break up may have been amiable too–he’s too damn nice!
